Future Fest

Future Fest presented by Southern Miss SGA – October 13th | 3-9PM | Chain Park

Come out to Chain Park for a day of local rock-influenced music that’s helping to shape the future of Hattiesburg’s rich musical culture. Join us on October 13th as musicians from Groove House Music take the stage, followed by Floridamen, Midnight Revel, and Paul Johnson & the About Last Nights!

3:00 PM – Groove House Music Performers
Born out of the idea that musical education needs to be rooted in strong theory and technique, and equally balanced with freedom to play any style regardless of instrument, select acts from Groove House will present their own unique interpretative style as they perform a variety of hits. Experience how Groove House creates an environment where anyone can have fun learning to play music that they love.

4:00 PM – Floridamen
Formed in spring of 2016, Michael Howell (vox/guitar) and Daniel Bishop (drums) were working with a batch of new songs. Nick Panella (bass/vox) soon joined in the room and invited Joel Gallaspy (keys) along. “Floridamen” became the name – and indie rock/country became the sound. The Floridamen “Four” EP is a taste of what came first. (Available on iTunes and Bandcamp) Floridamen are currently recording with Brennan Michael White of Codetta South who is producing/ engineering their new EP which will be available later this year.

5:45 PM – Midnight Revel
Midnight Revel is a rock band based in Hattiesburg, MS. All of its members were born and raised in the Deep South, and their roots run deep, here. This can be hear and felt in their music, which reflects the spirit and rich lineage of Southern Rock and Soul music, from the Allman Brothers to Bill Withers. They bring a soulful, groove to make you move, but they aren’t afraid to let their rock influences get down and heavy. Midnight Revel recently finished recording their first full-length album at Downman Sounds Studio in New Orleans (owned by members of Flow Tribe), and this pairs with their 5-song EP to provide a solid foundation for their sound. On many occasions, they have been the opening band for national music acts, such as Tim Reynolds of Dave Matthews Band, JJ Grey & Mofro, Greyhounds, Flow Tribe, and Afro Man and they are equally at home on large festival stages and in tiny cafes.

7:30 PM – Paul Johnson & the About Last Nights
Paul Johnson & The About Last Nights may be from Mississippi, but they aren’t your traditional “southern rock”. Singer/Songwriter Paul Johnson and Drummer Zack Lewis had a vision in mind, which was to play songs people want to sing, a kind of “Power Pop”, with the emphasis on “Power.” They unified on the principle of a “song first, honest music” mentality. High-energy music that draws from their influences like Cheap Trick and the Foo Fighters and at times the band recalls the performances of Weezer and Sloan in full-on rock mode, but never neglecting the art of the power balled. This is a band with a purpose, which is to make great music and have fun doing it and their live show proves it.
